Development of the Copeland Creek Information Hub

Abstract

Copeland Creek is a 9 mile long perennial creek that passes through the Sonoma State University campus. The goal of this project is to create a digital Copeland Creek Information Hub where students, faculty, community members, and local agencies can access all known information about the creek in one place. It contains information about current and past research projects organized by topic as well as restoration activities. We have begun monitoring human use of the campus Copeland Creek walking trail. We have been mapping riparian plant distribution and using wildlife cameras to monitor animals found along the creek. We established a water quality monitoring program that tests temperature, pH, conductivity, total dissolved solids, and dissolved oxygen levels in two creek locations on campus as well as in one of the campus ponds. This data is updated regularly and displayed on the Copeland Creek Information Hub’s Interactive Dashboard.
